Parties and playlists

Friday night, we met a couple of friends at a nearby bar for a birthday celebration. I handed the birthday boy a mix CD filled with primarily Swedish bands, as well as a strip of still-attached one dollar bills cut from the sheet we have leftover from Christmas. Perplexed as he unrolled it, he asked, "where'd you get these?" I sighed. "Ask my dad," I said. The friend was definitely amused, and put them away for later use.

Saturday was Kelly's (and soon to be Tara's) housewarming party, featuring delicious snacks and a signature red velvet cake. One of the party guests who shall remain nameless spent an inordinate amount of time drunkenly trying to convince me to eat chicken wings. He did not succeed. Around midnight, as promised, the party erupted into a Britpop dance party with this song:

and me singing along to this song:

In a curious reversal of typical party circumstances, Bobby and Tara were getting tired, so we headed home as folks started to leave the party. The following morning, I decided the house needed cleaning, so I worked on that for a while before heading to Melissa's Naked Lady Party. For those not in the know, Naked Lady Parties are not nearly as titillating as they sound. They mostly involve dragging out the bag of ill-fitting or out-of-style clothes from the back of your closet, dumping them in a big pile along with your friends' bags of clothes, and rooting around for things you like. Anything that's left is donated to charity. I got some good things, including a brand new pair of Kenneth Cole flats. Not a bad haul:

I've been listening to the new Belle & Sebastian record in anticipation of their show tomorrow. I'm not in love with it, though it's growing on me. However, I still prefer songs like this one:

One more thing. After seeing the following video, I absolutely cannot wait for the Vaselines show on Sunday. Sooooo excited!!! Last week was the week of rock and roll idols, this is the week of Scottish indie pop bands. Watch this, and then buy a ticket to the show so you can come with me!

  1. So that's where the uncut money went. Dad is smiling. We're just glad you had fun with the unique gift. Who knows what might be in store this year?? Great haul at the NLP. I think people in my demographic should copy the idea but we might have to alter the name. Wouldn't want to scare anyone.
