I've been busy

My review of Wild Flag's recent show is up on Melophobe. You can read it here. I'm mighty proud of it. Of course, my writing is always best when I'm discussing something I actually care about. The show ended up being a mini Ladies Rock Camp reunion with Holly (all the way from Seattle!), Jean, Mariellen, and Erin. Erin brought her husband and a friend, and the group of us had a nice time nerding out about music before the show.

I raced over to Biddy's for Harry Potter Pub Quiz with Patrick, Morgan, Matt, and Ori last night and ran in the door right as it started. Story of my life. I was responsible for the sheet with re-named literary titles, because I am a human thesaurus. We ended up winning. As I said to my dad, though, it was a land war in Asia. The other teams didn't stand a chance against us.

Monday night, Bobby wanted to host game night with a few friends, so we hurried home to speed-clean the house. Everybody bailed except Justin, who came over for dinner anyway. They taught me how to play some game called Dominion. The boys didn't want to play Risk with me, because I am horrendously competitive and nobody likes me very much after I beat them at that game. Justin did consent to a round of Mortal Kombat, and thus suffered through my taunts of "You took away my flawless victory! For that you must DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!" As previously noted, I am horrendously competitive and you should probably never accept my Mortal Kombat challenge.

Went shopping on Sunday with Michelle, who I introduced to the wonders of Sephora. I was sad to discover that a shade of eyeshadow I wanted has been discontinued. If anybody spies a tin of Urban Decay eyeshadow in Woodstock, let me know.

Bobby bought himself some new speakers for his upcoming birthday, and is currently using them to enjoy Aliens in surround sound downstairs. I have sequestered myself upstairs, where I am listening to the Magnetic Fields and decompressing. Unfortunately I left my wine downstairs, where it isn't helping anybody. Portland has officially entered the dark and rainy season, with no end in sight, and I am counting the days until I get to go to California.

  1. Exactly 40, but then, who's counting? No doubt the competitive game gene is fatherly driven. Congrats on the Pub Quiz win!!! The sunshine awaits your arrival.

  3. Busy bee as always. Why did we both start drinking wine regularly in our late 20s? What's with that?

  4. The thing about your review that I noticed, though, was that you did really well by the opening bands, whom I imagine you didn't care about nearly as much as you did about Wild Flag. Your observation and writing are just excellent. That's all there is to it. :)
