Because I'll be busy with family things tomorrow, I'm making my Thanksgiving post now. I'm not much of a sentimental person, but there are several things for which I am quite thankful. This year's list is as follows:
The obvious one is Bobby, who puts up with my shenanigans and knows when to hand me a glass of wine.
Then there's Weatherly, with whom I exchange lengthy emails nearly every day, which makes the geographic expanse between her house and my house a bit more tolerable.
Alex, who takes frequent breaks from academia to be thirteen with me.
Tara, for being a hair genius and one of my very best friends for the last decade.
Melophobe.com, for being the most rewarding thing to ever eat up my free time.
My parents, for reading my concert reviews despite never having heard of half the genres or musicians I talk about.
Bobby's family, for being the best in-laws on the planet.
The world's hippest coworkers, with whom I can chat about music and culture over glass after glass of post-work wine.
Countless other friends in Sweden, Canada, and all over the U.S.
My two cats who hate each other but love us.
The energy to withstand the grueling travel schedules demanded by my insatiable wanderlust.
The 70 degree weather that awaits me in my hometown each December, the thought of which carries me through the darkest winter days.
Etc., etc., etc.
Finally, I present my readers with a video of my sugar-coated and wholly-inaccurate retelling of the story of Thanksgiving. This was recorded by Sandy when she, Madeleine, and Anna visited us this past July. They were curious about Thanksgiving, so we threw one together for them.
For the past 27 years and 8 months (as of tomorrow), I've been thankful to share your life. It has been, and always will be, an incredible honor.
ReplyDeleteI am thankful that your description of the first thanksgiving did not mirror that scene in the Addams Family, which may have frightened your Swedish friends.
ReplyDeleteOk, ok, in all seriousness, thank you for reading my daily missives, many of which amount to artful descriptions of the pain in my head/sinuses/uterus/etc. And I am thankful that you have such wonderful parents and a great husband. xxoo
I'm thankful to have met you! And I really enjoy reading your reviews.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the part of the story I like best is how the native people taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn in the winter. :P
W, your emails are often the best part of my day, even if they're about headaches. Plus, you get quite similar replies from me. Ours is a symbiotic email relationship.
ReplyDeleteVéronique, I did say my Thanksgiving story was wholly inaccurate :)
