Today has been a long Wednesday indeed. I'm ready for delicious Thai food and a leisurely evening at home, possibly involving watching Almost Famous.
I had trouble sleeping last night and woke up too late to catch the bus, so I had to drive to work and pay the Pearl District Tool Tax (parking fees). Traffic was horrible because the City of Portland has decided to close one bridge and reduce another bridge to one lane in each direction, resulting in bottlenecks and backups all over town. Boo.
I spent my entire lunch break on the phone with AT&T, though the experience was not all that unpleasant. The woman I spoke with was nice, friendly, and helpful, and she never put me on hold once. However, she wasn't able to resolve my issue. The issue in question is that Bobby got a new phone a couple weeks ago. Some fancy new Samsung thingy that prints money and builds you your own private island, then transforms into a jet to fly you there. Anyhow, we got him all set up with a data plan and everything was hunky-dory until AT&T started sending us messages that his phone had exceeded $50 in data charges. Say WHAT? In three days? I called them last week to see what the trouble was, and they were most un-helpful. Yesterday I got a message that his phone has exceeded $100 in data charges. Now I'm angry. One: no it hasn't. Two: that $100 is for Sephora and Buffalo Exchange and food carts and plane tickets. It's not for paying AT&T for charges we didn't incur. Hence the hour-long chat. AT&T registers that we have the data plan set up, and that he's nowhere near the limit, and that I don't owe them any more money than I already pay them each month. But, they can't seem to fix whatever is causing this. We wait.
At the other end of the spectrum, expect to see some new writing projects from me, starting in a week or two. More on that as it develops.
My teeny Acer netbook arrived this morning, and it's adorable. Also, I have discovered the Pretty Much Amazing Podcast, which provided me with a two hour block of new music for the day. This was very nice after I used up my new episodes of Savage Love and Slate's Culture Gabfest (both of which I highly recommend). PMA's summer playlist is awesome, and I kept hitting repeat on this one:
Once I got home, I was greeted by the 2011 Ikea catalog. Plus, I just heard my home state got something right for once. Besides burritos and amusement parks, obviously. California's been making those properly for years.
